GrowHer: Kakao, GrowAsia Effort to Empower Women

South Sulawesi, October 03, 2023—Recently, GrowAsia launched the GrowHer: Kakao initiative to transform the cocoa supply chain in Indonesia by empowering 4,000 smallholder cocoa farmers and women entrepreneurs in North Luwu and East Luwu, South Sulawesi. GrowHer: Kakao is an innovative public-private partnership initiative by GrowAsia in collaboration with Save the Children Indonesia, Mars, and the Partnership for Indonesia's Sustainable Agriculture (PISAgro).

Women play a crucial role in farming families. Some of them are decision-makers and manage the family's finances. However, not all women have equal rights, especially concerning agricultural businesses.

The goal of GrowHer: Kakao is to enhance women's rights, representation, and access to resources in South Sulawesi. This way, women's voices are represented and heard in important business decisions, such as implementing climate-smart practices and crop diversification.
