Cargill Supports Certified Cocoa Procurement in Indonesia with Rp38.8 Billion in Premiums for Farmers

  • Around 7,800 cocoa farmers in Indonesia received a total of Rp38.8 billion (around US$2.3 million)  in premiums, as an additional income from verified agricultural practices and traceability requirements. This reflects the continuous development of Cargill’s cocoa sourcing program.
  • The premium distribution is carried during the Farmer Field Days, which were attended by local farmers and their families, to highlight community-based efforts for increasing agricultural practices knowledge sharing.
  • As a part of Cargill’s certified cocoa sourcing program, this initiative strengthens the company’s long-standing commitment to Indonesia as one of the major cocoas producing region and the local communities. The effort also enhances transparency, traceability, and quality in the cocoa supply chain.

Jakarta, Indonesia, 22 April 2026 – Cargill has supported certified cocoa sourcing in Indonesia by distributing an estimated amount of Rp38.8 billion in premiums to more than 7,800 farmers who are enrolled in the Rainforest Alliance Certification Program, marking a significant expansion to the country’s cocoa procurement program. From the total premium distributed, Rp35 billion is distributed to farmers in Central Sulawesi and Rp3.8 billion to farmers in East Nusa Tenggara.

The premium is provided as an additional incentive beyond the revenue made from cocoa bean sales and is provided for compliance with the internationally recognized certification standards, while also a part of the company’s broader cocoa procurement program. The program supports farmers through training, certification, and traceability systems in an effort to improve yields, maintain crop quality, and strengthen market access.
