Representatives from 18 Countries Studied Cocoa Cultivations in East Lampung

East Lampung, 14 June 2024 – Representatives from 18 countries visited Sribhawono village at Bandar Sribawono Subdistrict, East Lampung, to study its cocoa cultivation methods. Through the invitation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) and collaboration with the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), the visit is a part of an international agenda to strengthen the agricultural sector 

PT Olam Indonesia elaborates that the agroforestry system has been attractive since it has the potential to produce various crops from a single field. The implemented agroforestry system has several protective crops, namely cloves, avocado, nutmeg, and many others, through a method that is similar to tumpeng sari. Moreover, more than 3,000 farmers in East Lampung have the Rainforest Alliance (RA) certification and have been verified for their traceability by AtSource.

In addition to being attended by guests from 18 countries, the Regent of Lampung also participated in the event. Ela Siti Nuryamah emphasized that cocoa is the primary crop in the area, with farm areas of ​​9,547 hectares (ha) – 8,320 ha of which have entered their productive period. This visit is proof that cocoa from East Lampung can compete in the global market.
